Republican double speak: selective personal responsibility

Contrast two HotAir stories. One about a young woman getting drunk to the point of dying and one about telecom companies requesting immunity from lawsuits.
In the first case (I blogged about it here), HotAir was saying how allowing the mom of that woman to sue her friends (who participated in the binge drinking) would reduce [...]

HotAir says that solidarity with America is solidarity with Al Qaeda!

How else can the following post be interpreted?
Well, then try on this one from the headlines–the new Hollywood chic is orange ribbons symbolizing solidarity with Al Qaeda. Or at least those members of Al Qaeda who were dumb enough to find themselves detained in Gitmo. (More here). Surprised? No? Dang.
Terrific spin, but sorry, it’s not [...]

Am I down and out?

According to Jason Mattera, it seems to be the case!
I read Jason’s post, and I don’t understand which blog he is reading. Clearly it can’t be mine, because his comments don’t really address any of my points:

Fred Thompson has no faith in America

Listen to the part on Gitmo in his debate response. Closing Gitmo and allowing the detainees to come to the US (and using the court system) is seen as ‘liberalism’.
You know what? That Republicans prefer to use land leased from Cuban to circumvent our judicial system is what is sad. Fred and his friends have [...]

Taking an oath to the President…

Wow, this is really telling.
Sara Taylor said, mistakenly, that she took an oath to the President.
Watch the clip here…
This goes hand in hand with the loyal bushie stuff. I know loyalty is good, but there should clearly be a limit. Hopefully the Constitution stands in the way!
So when you hear someone talking about the rule [...]

The day strict constructionism died…

Libby’s sentence is commuted…
Of course you are going to say the president is just using his powers. Sure…
The bottom line is that at the end of day, Libby gets a pardon specifically because of who he is.
The system as a whole essentially took that into consideration.
Now that we see that there is no independant, or [...]
